Why do we have more than one fund?

Contributions from third parties (donors) must be accounted for separately from contributions from the nonprofit that benefits from the endowment.

Additionally, some donors request a named sub-fund, allowing for separate recognition and accounting. The Community Foundation’s fund management thus has a tiered structure: a “primary” fund that is empty of any assets, but allows for rolling up sub-funds; an Organization Third Party fund (denoted with a 00 coding) for donations from donors; an Organization Agency fund (denoted with a 01 coding) for donations from the nonprofit itself; and any named sub-funds that are honoring specific donors to the endowment.
